A built table of books - Digital Novelist notes - 2026-02-12

I hand-coded this myself.

Tammara,

I wasn't feeling very motivated today. The grind of doing what I do daily (writing, creating, etc.) just hit me. I felt like shit.

So I had to have a heart to heart with myself. Why keep doing all this when it feels like no one's showing up or responding or supporting in any meaningful visible way?

Have you ever felt like this?

Then I thought about the Winter Olympics on right now.

Many athletes train for years to maybe get one shot at a single peak moment of perfection. They wreck their bodies, while still working normal jobs or going to school for what? One chance at a sport like ice skating or big-air snowboarding? Nobody gives a shit about those sports outside of a very small group of fans and supporters.

Yet despite all that, they still do it.

Athletes show up, dress up, and step up for that single shot.

Bringing it back to me (and possibly you), we're not going for Olympic gold. But I do want to live a life that's meaningful. One that doesn't have me just checking out because it's so easy and convenient to do so these days. Fuck that.

I'm here to build. To find the limits of my potential. How about you?

So I put on some LET'S GO music. Turned on my code editor, picked up my pen and continued plodding on my novel, on code today. It was the most energized Thursday I've had all year.

I don't know where you're at in your life right now. But when life starts beating you down with relationship, medical, and other problems, you always have a choice: to let the pain shrink you or to gradually take it in and keep moving toward the person you want to be.

Today I chose slow painful growth to make whatever comes next just a little bit more manageable.

I hope this inspires you to do the same.

-Keith
