Dictionary dictates + a novel milestone
"I'm back in the stacks."
That's what I thought when I opened up an old copy of Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary this morning.
During today's writing session, I used my patented system of randomness to select a word.
Which word got picked?
Here it is (highlighted):
"fluoxetine" - an antidepressant drug C17H18F3NO that enhances serotonin activity
Not exactly a useful one for a supernatural horror story. However, the activity was still valuable.
I explain why in this brief episode (7 mins) of the Digital Novelist Podcast.

Novel Milestone
I successfully finished rewriting all the crappy AI chapters I shit out this summer.
Three months. It took that long to rewrite the chapters. Word to the wise:
when it comes to long form fiction, never rush the process.
Though it took longer than anticipated, progress on the novel should move much faster now.
It's more revising, tweaking, and connecting plot threads than coming up with new material. After my talk with Allen Grimes earlier this week, I appreciate the craft of molding rough edges of a draft into something smooth and beautiful. (Thanks for that Allen.)
The Gate is open
This is THE chapter where the story lives up to the title. A story called "GATES of Okinawa" should have gates in it. Portal one opens today.
Here you'll get a look at ground zero for the catastrophe coming to Okinawa.
Enjoy Chapter 22.
Discord Server Reminder
Allen and I recorded our interview in the HAC Studios Discord chat.
It's versatile, easy to access, and allows for multiple forms of communication without dealing with the frustration of fees or ads. I love it.
Now I want you to join me in there.
I'm still looking for the ideal time to host open office hours.
There we can discuss your stories or just shoot the shit.
Let me know your availability by filling out this brief survey.
Have a great weekend!
