The Legend of Taira no Masakado - Supernatural horror poem
Do you know? Do you know?
The legend of Taira no Masakado?
Pursued, hated, fated he was
To fight for a once noble cause
Over the fields and trees of Tokyo he battled
Against, traitorous families saddled with grief
With keen smarts and spirts, he beat off attack
The hoofbeats thundered, cold breath down his neck
Running, battling he slept in the gloom of mud
To evade the sword swipes and arrows as long as he could
Spent he lay, beneath a sky of swollen moon
Blades drawn near, their vengeance would come soon.
しかし he grew weary and took to bed
During a moon filled night, they collected his head
Posted as warning for all to see
Though days passed under suns and moons lonely
The flesh of his face did not decay
A hideous grimace, full of malice, did form
Dreadful sign on misfortune to come
A wicked curse to all who came within
For Taira no Masakado to exact bloody revenge
Burn! Slash! Drown! and Bury!
Foes and friends felt his fury
A rampage of violence, like a resounding symphony
Screams of terror echoing, over the centuries
And still they whisper, through the wind and trees
Will Masakado’s curse ever cease?
