Writing My Military Autobiography – Childhood

By khayden

I’ve got a trip up to Sapporo today, so didn’t have much time to write. But got a about 400 words done for the book.

Here’s are two excerpts from this morning’s session:

I’m originally from San Antonio, Texas, born and raised down there. My experience growing up there was mostly peaceful.

I grew up on the city’s southeast side in a community called Lakeside. (Not sure why they called it that since there was no lake nearby.)

At home, things were always fun. Mom worked at Fort Sam Houston, doing administrative support with the US Army. Dad was a local radio DJ. My older brother Ajani was a child genius. My younger brother Kevin was my best friend. Life was good.

AH nostalgic goodness.

Was having a tough time remembering details from my childhood. I remember we played a lot of games. Not just video games or board games, most were games we made up on our own.

Some were with toys, others were involved climbing on or flipping over furniture. That was childhood for me.

Early on I was an ace at school and a potential Spelling Bee champion. I remember annual “bike rodeos” at my school (it’s a Texas thing) and quiet nights building Legos with my brothers. There was more, but it was a blissful period of innocence, fun, and learning.

I’m happy I got to experience that. I’ll treasure it forever.
